1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website can save in your browser. They typically store either functional information (preferences, session state) or tracking identifiers used to follow you across sites. Save My Clips uses very few of either, and never the latter.
2. Cookies we set
Save My Clips itself sets at most two browser-storage entries, both strictly functional:
smc-banner, a flag that remembers if you've dismissed our cookies banner so it doesn't reappear on every visit.smc-theme(future), if we add a dark-mode toggle, your preference is stored here.
Both expire after 6 months and contain no personal information. They are first-party only and never sent to anyone other than this website.
3. Analytics cookies
We use two analytics services to understand how Save My Clips is used so we can fix bugs, remove friction, and prioritize improvements. Both are configured to minimize what they capture.
Google Analytics 4
Google Analytics (measurement ID G-YJ7JQHX9TJ) collects aggregate usage data — page views, session counts, approximate location (country/region only), device category, and referral source. We do not send any personally identifying information to Google Analytics.
Cookies set: _ga, _ga_<id>. Duration: up to 2 years. Purpose: distinguishing unique visitors.
Opt out: install Google's official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or block google-analytics.com in your browser's tracking-protection settings.
Microsoft Clarity
Microsoft Clarity (project ID xgr6lgr541) collects anonymized session recordings and heatmaps — where users click, how far they scroll, and where they get stuck. Text inputs including any URLs you paste into the downloader are masked by default and never recorded. IP addresses are masked in Microsoft's storage.
Cookies set: _clck, _clsk, MUID (Microsoft user identifier). Duration: up to 1 year. Purpose: linking user interactions across a session for analysis.
Opt out: visit Microsoft's privacy dashboard or block clarity.ms in your browser's tracking-protection settings. You can also review Microsoft's Privacy Statement.
4. Other third-party cookies
Some functionality on Save My Clips is provided by third parties that may set their own cookies under their own policies:
- Advertising networks, the banner ads that fund the tool may set cookies for frequency capping or attribution. We do not pass them your URL, your IP or any browser-identifier we control.
- Cloudflare, our hosting and security provider, may set a
__cf_bmcookie for bot detection. It expires after 30 minutes and contains no personal information.
If your local law (GDPR, ePrivacy, CPRA) requires consent for these cookies, the banner shown on your first visit lets you accept, reject or fine-tune them. Your choice is stored only in the cookie above.
5. Managing and opting out
You can block or delete cookies at any time from your browser. The exact menu depends on your browser:
- Chrome, Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Safari, Settings → Privacy
- Firefox, Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Edge, Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Blocking our own cookies will not break the downloader, at worst, the cookie banner reappears every visit.
6. Do Not Track
We respect "Do Not Track" / Global Privacy Control signals by default: if your browser sends one, advertising cookies that allow opt-out will be set in their opt-out mode automatically.
7. Updates
If we add or remove cookies we will update this page and bump the "Last updated" date. Material changes will trigger the cookies banner to reappear.
